Badminton & Community Facility Project
INTRODUCTION
The Bay of Plenty’s Badminton Facilities Trust’s (BOP Badminton) ambition is to establish a cost-effective, functional, and future-proofed home for badminton, one that will nurture participation from grassroots through to elite competition. The facility will not only provide a central hub for players, coaches, and officials, but also create opportunities for schools, clubs, and community groups to connect, collaborate, and thrive.
THE SITE
The new facility will be proudly located on an elevated site at Tatua Reserve, 61 Newton Street, positioned close to key community amenities for maximum accessibility and use.
MORE THAN A BUILDING
The Bay of Plenty Badminton & Multisport Centre will be a modern, purpose-built facility located at Tatua Reserve, Mount Maunganui. Designed to meet the growing demand for badminton and indoor sports in Tauranga, it will serve as a hub for sports and community engagement in the North Island.
THE NEED & IMPACT
Tauranga faces a shortage of multi-court indoor venues, limiting opportunities for sports participation and community connection. This facility will be a transformative community asset, promoting physical activity, social connection, and lifelong skills. It will create opportunities for young people and adults alike to participate in sport, build resilience, and strengthen community ties.
COMMUNITY WELLBEING
This facility has been designed as far more than a sporting venue. It will be a vibrant, modern hub for community life, offering inclusive, sustainable spaces where people can participate, connect, and thrive.
TO COLLABORATE
We invite supporters to join this transformative project, contributing to a space that will inspire generations. Your involvement will help create a lasting legacy for sports and community development in Tauranga.
